Pandemic increased IELTS test takers, frauds and change in conduct

A report by IDP said that test takers in India increased by 15% in the pandemic years. There are also some changes in conducting the IELTS exam during this period.

With this pandemic it brought the world to an halt but in india IELTS test takers grew by about 15%, data by IDP shows. There are some changes in the format of how the IELTS exam is conducting now. Furthermore fraud and ghostwriting also increased said in the report. Let’s discuss why there are more test takers and how the fraud is on rising.

Why more test takers?

Well this is a subjective questions and IDP do not have any explanation why this is happening. At a first glance it seems like as the world economy during COVID-19 period tumbled and it took India with it, more students are looking to take IELTS test for studying abroad then work and finally try to settle there. Lockdowns and curfews has also helped pushed students to take decisions of going abroad for studies for their better future and their career growth.

How fraud is rising?

According to Delhi police these criminals were exploiting IELTS online test taking methods with sophisticated software like Ultraviewer, Teamviewer and Imperius Remote. Delhi police arrested Raj Teodia in January 2022 who was running such racket. These criminals were using these software in giving exams in place of originals exam taker. These criminals were charging hefty amount of money to get top scores in IELTS. Police further said these criminals were also involved in GRE, GMAT and even JEE exams.
